Codigo 1530 Origen is a 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL extra añejo tequila aged a full 6 years in French white oak barrels that previously held Napa Valley Cabernet. Made from 100% fully matured blue Weber agave grown in Amatitán, in the Los Bajos lowlands of Jalisco, Mexico, it is the longest-aged expression in the Codigo 1530 range. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The "Codigo" the Locals Kept for Themselves

For generations, a small Amatitán distillery produced tequila for the private use of local families and friends — an unnamed pour shared under a code of honour, "los códigos." In 2016 Ron Snyder, Federico Vaughan and country artist George Strait brought that private recipe to market as Codigo 1530, and Origen is its crown: lowland agave given six slow years in Cabernet-seasoned French oak, far beyond the three-year extra añejo minimum. Browse the wider tequila collection, compare aged expressions across our spirits shelf, or see the house on the Codigo 1530 vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Spice, vanilla and caramel over sweet oak. Palate: Dried fig and cinnamon in a rich, wine-barrel-deepened body. Finish: Long and warm, the Cabernet cask leaving a dark-fruit echo.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a flute or snifter, sipped slowly after dinner — six years in wine barrels asks for a contemplative pour, not a mixer.

Where does the agave for Origen come from? Fully matured blue Weber agave from Amatitán in Los Bajos, the Jalisco lowlands — a warmer, earthier agave profile than the Highlands.
