Blue Run Glimmer Gin Barrel Finished Bourbon Whiskey is a limited micro-batch Kentucky straight bourbon from Blue Run Spirits of Georgetown, Kentucky, finished in gin barrels — a finish almost unheard of in bourbon. Created by Shaylyn Gammon, the brand's head of whiskey development, Glimmer takes Kentucky straight bourbon and rests it in toasted and charred American oak barrels that previously held Barr Hill Tom Cat Gin — the Vermont barrel-aged gin made with juniper and raw honey — for seven to twelve months. It is bottled at 103.2 proof (51.6% ABV) in a 750mL bottle with Blue Run's color-shifting butterfly bottle, in a run of fewer than 90 cases. Robb Report called it by far the most interesting whiskey Blue Run has made. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Bourbon That Splits the Difference

Blue Run was founded in 2020 and built its name on limited, design-led bourbon drops, with Bourbon Hall of Famer Jim Rutledge as liquid advisor. Most secondary finishes deepen a bourbon's base notes; Gammon designed Glimmer to do the opposite — to lift the top and middle notes with the gin cask's botanical character, so juniper, pine and raw-honey sweetness ride over the bourbon's caramel and oak. Tasting Notes

Caramel and vanilla on the nose with an unmistakable botanical lift — juniper, soft pine, a faint honeyed sweetness and a whisper of citrus and herb; toffee and oak on the palate meeting the gin cask's piney, floral, gently sweet influence; and a long finish with juniper spice lingering over the whiskey.

How to Enjoy

Pour it neat and give it air — the botanicals bloom as it opens. Drinkers who love both a Martinez and an Old Fashioned will find it splits the difference; it also makes a singular whiskey sour. Honest note: this is a genuinely unusual finish, and drinkers who dislike gin should know what they are getting. More limited bourbons live across our spirits range.
