Twenty Years in Veracruz, Wrapped in Amate
Licores Veracruz runs its aged rums as a ladder: the younger tiers are blended by the solera method, but the house reserves the single-barrel method for the top — and the 20 Year is that top. Two decades in European white oak in the humid subtropical climate at Cordoba, 900 metres up, gives the rum its mahogany depth without tropical overdrive. The Art Edition then dresses the bottle as an object in its own right: Maestro Victor Fernandez wraps each one in amate, the bark fibre worked in Mexico since before the Spanish arrived, so every numbered bottle is a one-off piece around a 20-year-old rum. Tasting Notes
Per the producer's official notes: mahogany with gold and amber highlights; a nose led by the barrel — vanilla, caramel, almond, hazelnut and tobacco; and a balanced, refined palate closing on a subtle, elegant woody finish. It is a dry-leaning, oak-composed style of aged rum rather than a sweet one.
How to Enjoy
