Gracias a Dios Mezcal Espadín Reposado is a 100% Mexican-owned mezcal from Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca — the self-proclaimed "world capital of mezcal." This 750mL bottle is 45% ABV (90 proof), made from 8-year-old cultivated Espadín agave, double-distilled in copper, and rested three months in new American oak (per the importer's tech sheet).

Maestro mezcalero Oscar Hernandez cooks the agave in a conical earth oven and ferments 10–12 days in pine-wood tubs the traditional way. The distillery runs on solar energy, conserves water, and pays fair wages — and the reposado earned 94 points from VinePair, which noted the oak "dials down" the smoke into something sweet and vibrant.

Tasting notes

Gold in the glass. Spice, almond, vanilla, and wood on the nose with subtle earth and fruit; the palate is silky — vanilla, almond, sweet crème brûlée, and mild smoke — finishing with smoke and spice. Buttery, balanced, and easy.

Frequently asked questions

What does reposado mean for mezcal?
Rested in oak — here, three months in new American oak, which softens the smoke and adds vanilla and spice.

Is Gracias a Dios smoky?
Less than most — the barrel rest dials the smoke back into the background.
