Washington Bourbon, Finished in Ruby Port
Woodinville Whiskey Co. was founded in 2010 by friends Orlin Sorensen and Brett Carlile, mentored by the late Dave Pickerell, former Maker's Mark master distiller. Everything is mashed, distilled and barrelled at the Woodinville distillery from Washington-grown grain, then trucked over the Cascades to barrel houses in Central Washington, where extreme temperature swings work on the oak. For this flagship expression, the fully matured straight bourbon gets a second act: six months in Ruby Port barrels for a more viscous mouthfeel and a layer of dark-fruit richness. Tasting Notes
Nose: Creme brulee and spice-cabinet aromas with candied cherry. Palate: Rich caramel and vanilla bean with berries, orange zest, dried plum and chocolate from the port finish. Finish: Long and sweet.
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat or with a single cube after dinner, when the port-cask fruit reads most clearly, or use it in a Manhattan where the cherry and chocolate notes deepen the drink.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the port finish? Six additional months in Ruby Port barrels, after the bourbon has fully matured — the distiller's own description of this expression.
What is the mash bill? 72% corn, 22% rye and 6% malted barley, grown exclusively for Woodinville on the Omlin Family Farm in Quincy, Washington.
How old is the bourbon? The copy deliberately states no age: classic distiller copy calls the base 5-year, while the brand's 2026 repackaging highlights 6-year flagship labels. The 6-month port finish is consistent across both.
