Volcán De Mi Tierra Añejo Cristalino Tequila is an 80-proof (40% ABV) 100% Blue Weber agave añejo cristalino in a 750mL bottle — a rare blend of añejo aged in ex-whiskey casks and extra añejo aged in ex-Cognac barrels, charcoal-filtered to a crystal-clear spirit. Made under NOM 1523 at Agrotequilera de Jalisco in Huaxtla, Jalisco, it is the joint venture of Moët Hennessy and the Gallardo family. Available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

  • ABV: 40% (80 proof)
  • Size: 750mL
  • Aging: añejo + extra añejo blend — ex-whiskey (American oak) casks and ex-Cognac (European oak) barrels, charcoal-filtered after aging
  • Origin: NOM 1523, Huaxtla, Jalisco, Mexico; 75% lowland (El Valle) + 25% highland (Los Altos) Blue Weber agave
  • Production: lowland agave slow-roasted 44 hours in a mampostería oven; overseen by master distiller Anna María Romero Mena

Two Terroirs, One Volcano: The Volcán De Mi Tierra Story

Volcán De Mi Tierra ("Volcano of My Land") was born from the LVMH–Gallardo partnership to capture two sides of Jalisco's volcanic terroir in a single brand. For the añejo cristalino, the lowland agave of El Valle is slow-roasted for 44 hours in a traditional mampostería oven while highland agave from Los Altos brings aromatic lift. The aged blend — part añejo from American oak ex-whiskey casks, part extra añejo from European oak ex-Cognac barrels — is then charcoal-filtered, marrying deep barrel character with a pristine, crystal-clear pour. It is a modern tequila built for the agave purist who loves añejo depth without the color.

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with caramel, vanilla, and cooked agave over dried fruit and a thread of tobacco. On the palate, dark chocolate and pepper join honeyed oak and warm vanilla, the ex-Cognac portion adding a polished, wine-barrel roundness. The finish is long and gently spicy — a cristalino that drinks with the weight of an aged añejo tequila.

How to Enjoy

Serve neat in a Riedel-style tequila glass or a whisky tumbler to let the barrel notes bloom. It also upgrades any cristalino-based cocktail — try it in an añejo Old Fashioned where the filtered clarity keeps the drink bright. Explore more from the house at the Volcán de mi Tierra vendor page.
