From the Coolship Side of the Campus
Two Roads opened in December 2012 in Stratford, Connecticut, in a renovated century-old factory — its name and "Take the Road Less Traveled" philosophy borrowed from Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken." Area Two is its experimental sibling on the same 10-acre campus: a 25,000 sq ft facility built for sour, barrel-aged and experimental beer, with barrels, foudres, concrete and steel tanks and a 50-barrel coolship. Synopsis Dark Sour Cherry is pure Area Two — wild and cultured yeasts, time on wood, and a heavy hand with dark cherries. Tasting Notes
Nose: Dark cherry fruit over a subtle funk from the mixed fermentation, per the producer. Palate: Juicy tartness from the cherries with a slight tannic edge. Finish: Complex and refreshingly tart.
How to Enjoy
Serve it cold in a tulip or wine glass so the cherry and funk aromatics collect. It pours like a light red wine — try it with duck, dark chocolate, or a funky washed-rind cheese.
