Lexington's First New Distillery in a Century

When Town Branch opened in October 2012 it was the first new distillery built in Lexington in over 100 years — a Kentucky Bourbon Trail member named for the Town Branch waterway beneath the city, the stream Lexington was founded on. Unusually, the bourbon is built from components of two distillation methods on the same grain bill — double pot still and column still — and the distillery's current blending strategy works with 5-to-8-year stock, about two years older on average than the blend it replaced. That dual-method build is the house signature: column-still brightness over pot-still weight. Pour it from our bourbon whiskey collection, or line it up against the house single malt on the Town Branch vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Woody oak first (distillery-derived notes). Palate: Caramel, toffee and brown sugar with a hint of cherry — the 13% malted barley showing in the richness. Finish: Long and warming.

How to Enjoy

Neat or on a large cube at 90 proof, and a natural Old Fashioned bourbon — the rye fraction gives the spice, the barley gives the body. Non-chill filtered, so a few drops of water bring the toffee forward rather than thinning it out.
