Eight Casks, Six Photographers, One New Distillery
The Magnum Edition marks the moment The Macallan opened its landmark new distillery in 2018. Steve McCurry, Martin Parr, Paolo Pellegrin, Mark Power, Gueorgui Pinkhassov and Alec Soth photographed the building's creation from genesis to completion — landscape, materials, workers and structure — and each photographer's work was answered in whisky: a spicy gingered cask for McCurry's bold style, an oak-dominant cask of age for Parr's oblique view, an intense black-cherry cask for Pellegrin's forceful black and white, two casks for Power's familiar-from-obscure angles, a rich mahogany ex-European red wine cask for Pinkhassov's colour, and a first-fill American barrel of delicate citrus for Soth's spirit of adventure — with a final, intensely sweet yet classic cask representing Magnum itself. Tasting Notes
Per the brand: deep amber with rose gold in the glass; spiced ginger, mellow oak, tangerine and caramelised apple on the nose; candied dried fruit, butterscotch and honeyed nut on the palate; and a medium-long finish of sweet, earthy peat.
