The Glenlivet — founded in 1824 by George Smith, the first licensed distiller in the Livet valley — built its name on a light, fruity spirit from tall lantern-shaped stills. The Single Cask Edition takes that spirit somewhere darker: fourteen years in a single first-fill sherry butt concentrates the distillery's orchard fruit under layers of dried fruit, toffee and spice, and bottling at the cask's own 61.2% keeps every bit of it. Bottled in February 2018 per the release material, cask #58022 is gone once these 528 bottles are. Tasting Notes
The producer's notes open with sweet damson plums and poached pears in a licorice-root syrup, with fresh citrus and cinnamon; the palate brings warming ginger spice, raisins and sultanas, treacle toffee, marzipan and a hint of dark chocolate with lively lemon peel; the finish is long and slightly dry with toasted almonds.
