Named for a Golf Ball Stuffed With Feathers

Before the rubber golf ball there was the "feathery": a handmade leather ball stuffed with a top hat full of feathers, the lovingly crafted standard of its day — and the first expression in Spencerfield's range celebrating original Scottish craftsmanship. Spencerfield's managing director at launch compared the whisky to that ball: both lovingly handcrafted. The whisky itself is a sherry lover's build — single malts married after full maturation in sherry wood, launched in 2014 with 17th-century-style typography on the label and gift tin, and brought into the Ian Macleod Distillers portfolio when Spencerfield was acquired in 2016. Tasting Notes

Per the producer's launch notes: a dry, nutty sherry nose with sweet creamy vanilla and hints of ginger; a palate of warm rich oak, sweet sherry-soaked sultanas and orange segments, with raisins and soft fruits and a full mouthfeel; and a long finish of spiced orange and chocolate with a hint of butterscotch. Deep golden brown in the glass.

How to Enjoy
