The Sun King of Casa San Matias
Casa San Matias, founded in 1886, commissioned Bustamante so the bottle would be worthy of the tequila inside it — two pieces of art merged into one, in the house's own framing. San Matias also claims a category first: its 1993 Gran Reserva was, by the house's account, the first extra anejo marketed. See the house on the Tequila Rey Sol vendor page, or browse our tequila collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the producer's published notes: intense bright amber with orange and copper highlights; oak, chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut, roasted almond and dried fruit on the nose; a sweet, full-bodied palate dominated by oak; a long finish of chocolate and almond.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat and slowly — six years of new French oak make this a decanter pour, not a mixer. More extra anejos are in our tequila collection.
