Teeling Single Grain Irish Whiskey
Teeling Single Grain Irish Whiskey is a 750mL grain whiskey bottled at 46% ABV and non-chill-filtered. The mash is 95% corn and 5% malted barley, column distilled, and then — unusually — matured for its full term exclusively in Californian Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks, so the red wine does not finish this whiskey, it raises it: sweet corn spirit soaked in berry fruit and wine tannin. One of only a handful of single grain bottlings in the world, it was named World's Best Single Grain at the World Whiskies Awards in 2014. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Grain Whiskey That Drinks Like a Red Wine Cask Experiment
Single grain is the rarest shelf in Irish whiskey — most grain spirit disappears anonymously into blends. Teeling bottles its own because the recipe deserves daylight: instead of the standard ex-bourbon maturation, every drop spends its life in hand-selected Californian Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, trading vanilla-and-caramel for red berries, grape and a dry, tannic grip. It is the work of the Teeling brothers' Dublin revival — the family has made whiskey in the city since 1782, and their Liberties distillery, opened in 2015, was Dublin's first new distillery in over 125 years. Compare the malt and the blend on the Teeling vendor page and across our Irish whiskey collection.
Tasting Notes
Teeling describes red grape, berries and spice over an underlying sweetness on the nose; a smooth, silky palate of spice deepening into berry fruit; and a short, dry, tannic finish where the red wine casks sign their work.
How to Enjoy
Neat to taste the wine casks clearly; it also makes a striking, fruit-led Highball. More grain and blend styles are in our spirits collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is single grain Irish whiskey?
Whiskey from a single distillery made predominantly from grains other than malted barley — here 95% corn with 5% malted barley, column distilled. Despite the name, "single" refers to the distillery, not a single grain.
What casks mature Teeling Single Grain?
Exclusively Californian Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks, for the whiskey's full maturation — not a short finishing period.
Is Teeling Single Grain aged for five years?
It carries no age statement, and Teeling does not publish an age for it; a five-year figure in some retail listings is unverified.
