Tanqueray London Dry Gin is a 750mL gin in its US bottling at 47.3% ABV (94.6 proof), made to the recipe Charles Tanqueray built after setting up his Bloomsbury, London distillery in 1830. Diageo states the publicly known recipe plainly — four botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice — added during the second of four distillations of a grain spirit. Production today is at Cameronbridge in Fife, Scotland, where three large copper pot stills make the London Dry, one of them the still known as "Old Tom," in use for over 250 years. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Charles Tanqueray's 1830 Recipe, Still Running

Charles Tanqueray experimented through hundreds of recipes before settling on the one that still defines this gin — juniper-led, dry, and built for balance rather than novelty. His son Charles Waugh Tanqueray took over in 1868; the London distillery was badly damaged in the Second World War, and its surviving still, "Old Tom," eventually moved north to Cameronbridge, where it still works. Diageo positions the result as the bartender's choice for a gin & tonic — a "T&T" — and the trade agreed in the Drinks International Brands Report 2023. Tasting Notes

From the brand's official profile: an elegant herbal character with a floral finish — piney juniper first, then peppery coriander, aromatic angelica and a thread of sweet liquorice, crystal clear from the four distillations.

How to Enjoy

The brand's own serve is the T&T: a gin & tonic with plenty of ice and citrus. At 47.3% it also stands up in a Martini or a Negroni without disappearing behind the other ingredients.
