Springbank 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky is a flagship Campbeltown single malt, matured 18 years and bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) in a 700mL bottle. Lightly peated, non-chill filtered, and naturally colored, it marries bourbon, sherry, and a parcel of rum casks. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

The Benchmark of Campbeltown

Springbank is the only distillery in Scotland that malts 100% of its own barley on traditional floor maltings and carries every step — malting, milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, maturation, bottling — on one site in Campbeltown. The 18 Year Old is the distillery's calling card: eighteen years in oak building treacle, maritime, and smoke into a whisky many consider the benchmark of the region.

Tasting Notes

Marzipan, white chocolate, raspberry, and marmalade open the nose, layered with heather honey, old leather, and a subtle maritime earthiness. The palate is full-bodied and textured — treacle, brambles, blackcurrants, nutmeg, and dark chocolate against Springbank's distinctive gentle smoke. The finish is exceptionally long: ash, tart gooseberry, salted pretzel, and cayenne pepper.

How to Enjoy

Pour neat in a Glencairn; a few drops of cool water open the fruit and smoke. For the Scotch whisky collector, it sits among the great long-aged malts — and for the Campbeltown curious, it is the bottle that explains the region.

Frequently Asked Questions

What casks are used for Springbank 18?
Recent releases marry bourbon casks, sherry casks, and a small parcel of rum casks (currently 50/45/5); exact ratios vary by annual release.

Is Springbank 18 chill filtered or colored?
Neither — every Springbank single malt is bottled without chill filtration and without added color.

Is Springbank peated?
Lightly — the standard Springbank make is distilled 2.5 times from lightly peated malt, sitting between the heavily peated Longrow and the unpeated Hazelburn.

Don’t buy this….

….because that will leave more for me. Springbank 18 is on par with MacAllen Reflexion $1600/bottle) as the two greatest scotches I’ve ever had. It is amazingly well balanced in all aspects with a subtle sweetness and complexity. Surprisingly different from Springbank 10, which is also one of my favorites.
