Siete Leguas D'Antano Extra Anejo Tequila
Siete Leguas D'Antano Extra Anejo Tequila is the old-style flagship of a family house founded in 1952 — 750mL, made from 100% Highland Blue Weber agave grown in the red soils of Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco, and aged a full five years in American white oak barrels previously used for bourbon. "D'Antano" means of yesteryear, and the house makes it the slow way it always has. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Pancho Villa's Horse, Five Years of Patience
Siete Leguas — Seven Leagues — was the name of Pancho Villa's horse, and Don Ignacio Gonzalez Vargas borrowed it for the distillery he founded in Atotonilco El Alto in 1952. The house still works two distilleries side by side: one built around a stone tahona and fibre fermentation, one around a mechanical mill, their juices blended before double distillation in small copper stills. For D'Antano, that spirit then rests five years in ex-bourbon American oak — more than double the anejo minimum — until cooked agave and barrel stand in balance. Find it in our tequila collection and the anejo and extra anejo shelves, or see the house on the Siete Leguas vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Sweet red and dried fruits with toasted oak, cooked agave still present beneath. Palate: Maple syrup, coffee, chocolate and vanilla with nuts, raisins, prunes, orange, peach, cherries and blueberries. Finish: Lingering cooked agave with light cinnamon and clove spice and fresh spearmint, mint and chamomile.
How to Enjoy
Neat at room temperature in a tulip or wide-bowled glass — five years of oak deserve a contemplative pour. A single large cube is as much dilution as it wants.
