Sazerac de Forge XO Cognac
Sazerac de Forge XO Cognac is a 20+ year Grande Champagne blend from one of Cognac's oldest houses: 43% ABV (86 proof) in this 750mL bottle — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Sazerac de Forge & Fils was founded in 1782 by Bernard Sazerac de Forge in Segonzac, in the heart of Grande Champagne — and reestablished in 2019 by the Sazerac company (owners of Buffalo Trace Distillery). Cellar Master Denis Lahouratate blends eaux-de-vie aged more than 20 years, including remarkably old stocks from across the region, matured in French oak under organic viticulture, aiming for a "pre-phylloxera" character. No added coloring. It arrives in a rounded clear-glass bottle with a natural cork and the house's signature satin blue "Sazerac Blue" ribbon. Released November 2025.
Tasting notes (official press release): silky and floral, creamy texture, dried fruits, warm spice, gentle natural sweetness, and a soft, lingering finish — with dried apricot, fig, candied orange, vanilla, honey, and leather/tobacco hints per retailer coverage.
Why buy Sazerac de Forge XO? Because a 20+ year Grande Champagne XO at 43% ABV from a 1782 house is serious cognac at a fair price — and the reestablished domaine's first releases are the ones collectors chase. Serving note: neat in a tulip glass at room temperature; the higher proof rewards a slow pour.
Is this the same Sazerac as the rye whiskey? The house shares ownership — the historic Sazerac de Forge & Fils Cognac house (1782) was reestablished in 2019 by the Sazerac company, owners of Buffalo Trace Distillery — but this is a Grande Champagne cognac, not a whiskey.
How old is the blend? A blend of eaux-de-vie aged more than 20 years, including remarkably old stocks; no age statement on the label — XO designation.
What proof is it? 43% ABV (86 proof) in the 750mL bottle.
Where is it made? Segonzac, in the heart of Grande Champagne, France.
