Sagamore Spirit Double Oak Rye Whiskey
Sagamore Spirit Double Oak Rye Whiskey is a 750mL Maryland-style rye bottled at 96.6 proof (48.3% ABV), aged 4 to 5 years in high-char new American oak and then finished for an additional 18 months in toasted wave-stave barrels. Sagamore blends two rye mash bills — a high-rye and a low-rye — in the balanced, sweeter Maryland tradition, and proofs the whiskey with limestone-filtered water from the 1909 Sagamore Farm spring house. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Two Barrels, One Maryland Rye
Sagamore Spirit set out to revive Maryland's historic rye style from its waterfront Baltimore distillery, opened in 2017. For Double Oak, the fully matured rye moves into a second barrel built with wave-shaped staves: the rippled wood exposes more surface to the whiskey, pulling caramel, toffee and toasted coconut deep into the spirit over 18 additional months. Tasting Notes
Per the brand: baking spices, dried orange peel and warm cinnamon on the nose; smooth caramel and rich toasted coconut on the palate with hazelnut, pecan and vanilla; a finish of warm spice, honey, mild oak and faded fruit.
How to Enjoy
Double Oak's extra barrel time makes it a natural Old Fashioned rye — the toasted coconut and caramel stand up to bitters and a big cube. It also sips cleanly neat. More Maryland and American ryes are in our rye whiskey collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "double oak" mean here?
The rye is aged twice: 4–5 years in high-char new American oak, then 18 more months in a second, wave-stave barrel — roughly six years of total maturation across the two barrels.
What is a wave-stave barrel?
A barrel whose staves are milled with a wavy profile, increasing the wood surface touching the whiskey. Sagamore uses low-char, medium-plus-toast wave staves for this finish.
What is Maryland-style rye?
The historic Maryland profile — a blend of high-rye and lower-rye mash bills that drinks rounder and sweeter than a high-rye Pennsylvania-style rye, with corn softening the spice.
