Rhine Hall Guava Eau de Vie
Rhine Hall Guava Eau de Vie is a 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL unaged fruit brandy distilled in Mexico from whole, perfectly ripened yellow guavas — the vibrant essence of ripe guava with no added sugars and no artificial flavours. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Chicago's Rhine Hall distillery — founded in 2012 by father and daughter Charlie Solberg and Jenny Solberg Katzman — built its name on European-style fruit brandies, and for tropical fruit it goes to the source: the guavas are grown in Central Mexico, mashed into a fragrant purée and fermented, then distilled in partnership with expert Mexican distillers in a stainless steel alembic still traditionally used for mezcal production. The result is a refined, aromatic spirit that tastes like the fruit itself.
Tasting profile: a vibrant aroma of freshly sliced ripe guava, with cane sugar, toasted coconut and dried pineapple on the nose; a juicy palate balancing sweetness and tartness with hints of molasses, cantaloupe and vanilla; a clean, dry, refreshing finish. Serving note: powerful on its own neat or lightly chilled, and an easy mixer — try it in a Daiquiri-style serve or a highball where the guava aroma carries the drink.
