The Navy's Rum, Aged Fifteen Years
For over 300 years the Royal Navy issued its sailors a daily rum ration — the "tot" — served out by the ship's purser, whose name, worn down by sailors' slang, became "Pusser." The ration ended on Black Tot Day, 31 July 1970, but in 1979 Charles Tobias obtained the Admiralty blending rights and founded Pusser's on Tortola, making the navy blend commercially available for the first time; the brand still contributes to the Royal Navy Sailor's Fund. The 15 Year Old is where that heritage meets patience: Guyanese pot-still and column-still rums, aged a full fifteen years and blended in small batches. Forbes Magazine has called Pusser's the "Single Malt of Rum." Explore the rest of the range on the Pusser's Rum vendor page and in our rum collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the producer: dark amber in the glass, with a nose of classic Demerara sugar and molasses, dried fruits, island spices and caramel; a full, round body built for sipping; and a warm, smooth, long finish.
How to Enjoy
Neat, the way a tot never was — fifteen years in oak asks for a straight pour — or with a single cube to open the Demerara depth. It also makes a serious navy-strength-style Daiquiri base at standard proof. More aged rums live in our rum collection and across our spirits collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Pusser's 15 Year Old rum made?
The rum is from Guyana — the producer's own product page states Guyana as its origin. The Pusser's brand itself was founded in 1979 on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, built on the Royal Navy's Admiralty blend.
What does "Pusser" mean?
It is sailors' slang for the ship's purser, the officer who issued the Royal Navy's daily rum ration for over 300 years until the practice ended on 31 July 1970 — "Black Tot Day."
Is Pusser's 15 a blend?
Yes — a small-batch blend of wooden-pot-still and column-still Guyanese rums, revised in 2019 when the column-still component moved from Trinidad to Guyana, per the producer's CEO.
