Pasqua Famiglia Pasqua Passimento Veneto 2010 is a 750mL Veneto IGT red from Verona, Italy — a blend of Merlot (40%), Corvina (30%) and Croatina (30%) made by the appassimento method, with hand-picked grapes dried in wooden crates in a fruttaio until they lose about 30% of their water. It is the founding wine of Pasqua's Romeo & Juliet project, and as the 2010 vintage it is a mature bottle to drink now. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Romeo & Juliet Wine of Verona

Pasqua, founded in Verona in 1925 and still family-led, dedicated this wine to its home city and its famous lovers: the label reproduces photographer Gio Martorana's shot of the message-covered wall in Juliet's courtyard. The winemaking borrows Amarone's signature trick at a lighter touch — a shorter drying that concentrates the fruit and softens the wine rather than building a powerhouse. Trade coverage dates the Passimento debut to 2011, making this 2010 the first vintage of the line. Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep ruby red. Nose: Intense, concentrated black and red cherry with leather and spice hints, per the producer's profile for the wine. Palate: Layered and rounded, with velvety tannins and a long finish. A sound 2010 today will show more developed, tertiary character than the young wine's profile.

How to Enjoy

Drink it now — this is a mature bottle, not a cellaring candidate — with red meat, game or aged cheese, the producer's own pairings for the wine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Passimento" mean? It is Pasqua's name for its take on appassimento: partially drying the grapes (here, about 30% water loss) before fermentation to concentrate flavour, in the Veronese Amarone tradition but for a shorter period.

What grapes are in it? Merlot, Corvina and Croatina — an international variety blended with two local Veronese grapes, in the proportions on Pasqua's official tech sheet.

Should a 2010 still be cellared? No. Passimento was designed as an accessible, early-drinking appassimento red; the 2010 is fully mature and should be enjoyed now, with condition and storage history mattering more than further ageing.
