The Farmer's Name on the Decanter
Partida is named for Enrique Partida, the Amatitan agave farmer whose estate fruit — Blue Weber grown on the family's own land in the Tequila Valley, near a dormant volcano, and harvested at seven to ten years — supplies every bottle; the ripest selection is reserved for Elegante. Master distiller Jose Valdez built the house process around that fruit: a prompt cook after harvest, a slow fermentation, double distillation, and then, for this bottling, a minimum of four years in American oak that once held bourbon (detailed accounts name Jack Daniel's barrels). The brand's founding position — agave, natural yeast and estate water, nothing added — holds at the top of the range too. Find it on our extra anejo tequila shelf, browse the range in tequila, or see the house on the Partida vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Dark amber in the glass; toasted oak, dark chocolate, coffee and ripe banana (brand notes). Palate: Toasty and peppery on entry, opening into cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, butter, maple, almond and hazelnut with black pepper and citrus flowers. Finish: Elegant and rounded, butterscotch and cocoa in Wine Enthusiast's account.
How to Enjoy
Neat, in a snifter or stemmed glass, with time — a four-year-old extra añejo in a decanter is a digestif pour, not a mixer. A single cube is as far as it needs to go.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a tequila "Extra Anejo"? By Mexican regulation, an extra añejo rests at least three years in oak vessels of no more than 600 litres. Elegante goes past the floor: Partida's current site states a minimum of 48 months.
Is Elegante the same as Partida Roble Fino? No — Roble Fino is a separate Partida line finished in sherry-seasoned, ex-single-malt casks. Elegante is aged in ex-bourbon American oak only.
Where does the agave come from? Partida's own estate in the Tequila Valley near Amatitan, Jalisco — the brand was founded on Enrique Partida's farming there, and the agave is harvested at seven to ten years of maturity.
