Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila is the unaged blanco the range was built on — 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL, 100% Blue Weber agave from the Los Altos highlands around Arandas, Jalisco, cooked in brick ovens, part-crushed by tahona, double distilled in copper pots and bottled without oak, pouring crystal clear with herbs, citrus and green pepper. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Highland Agave, Nothing to Hide Behind

A blanco has no barrel to lean on, which is why the Altos founders — bartenders Henry Besant and Dre Masso with maestro tequilero Jesus Hernandez — built the Plata the slow way: brick ovens instead of diffusers, a two-ton tahona in the crush, copper pots for the double distillation, and agave grown at altitude in Arandas' red soils, where the cool nights hold the sugars and aromatics. What reaches the bottle is the distillery's signature in its purest form — herbal, citrus-bright, a little peppery, and made to disappear into a Margarita without going quiet. Start with it in our blanco tequila selection, browse the full tequila range, or visit the Olmeca Altos vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Herbal and bright — cooked agave, lime and lemon zest (brand notes). Palate: Green pepper and citrus over sweet cooked agave, with the tahona's earthy depth underneath. Finish: Clean, dry and peppery.

How to Enjoy

This is the Margarita blanco bartenders reach for — its herbal, citrus frame was designed for lime and salt. It also pours a proper Ranch Water and a Paloma with backbone, and sips surprisingly well neat at room temperature for an unaged spirit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Olmeca Altos Plata aged? No — it is an unaged blanco, rested only in stainless steel before bottling, so everything in the glass comes from the agave and the distillation.

Why do bartenders rate Altos Plata? It was created by two working bartenders for cocktail use: brick-oven cooking and part-tahona crushing give it more agave presence than commodity blancos, at a working-bartender price.

What does "Plata" mean? "Silver" — the Mexican term for the clear, unaged blanco class of tequila.
