Mount Gay Single Estate Series Release 02
Mount Gay Single Estate Series Release 02 (coded 24_02_Vt18d2) is a 110-proof (55% ABV), 750mL single-vintage Barbados rum — the first single-harvest release in Mount Gay's terroir-driven Single Estate Series. It is 100% pot-still rum from the 2018 sugarcane harvest, aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, and available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
Released in 2024, Release 02 is Mount Gay's field-to-bottle statement: 100% of the molasses comes from sugarcane grown on the Mount Gay Estate and the Oxford Estates — 324 acres acquired in 2015 that made the distillery vertically integrated. The 2018 harvest was the latest in the distillery's history (starting at the end of July, nearly during Crop Over), giving the team just one week to harvest everything; that high-sugar (72%) molasses went through a 9-day fermentation and two distinct copper pot-still distillations. (Release 01, by contrast, blended the 2016 and 2017 harvests.) Each bottle carries a QR code linking to the production journey; packaging uses 70% recycled glass with minimal ink and a blue label inspired by the summer skies of the 2018 harvest. Limited to 5,418 bottles worldwide, 1,200 for the US (US SRP $400).
Tasting profile: light golden color; aromas of bold citrus, grapefruit, sweet plums, banana, almonds, sea salt, and milk chocolate; a palate of brown sugar, oak, grapefruit, floral notes, and gentle salty smokiness. Browse the Mount Gay brand collection, more rum, and the full spirits collection.
Serving note: sip neat at 55% ABV — a few drops of water will open the citrus and floral notes.
