The Spot That Waited Fifty Years
Dublin wine merchants Mitchell & Son once marked their ageing casks with a daub of coloured paint — blue for 7 years, green for 10, yellow for 12, and red for 15. Red Spot disappeared in the mid-1960s and returned only in November 2018, rebuilt from an old family recipe: five-year-old bourbon-matured pot still whiskey was laid into Sicilian Marsala casks as early as 2004 to prepare for its revival. It is now the flagship of the Spot range. Explore the family on the Spot Whiskey vendor page, or browse our Irish whiskey collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the brand: pot still spice with cooked fruit, baked apple, mango and black cherry on the nose, over hazelnut, new leather and toasted American oak; ripe fruit sweetness from the Marsala casks with sweet red pepper and cracked black pepper on the palate; and an extra-long finish of fruit and spice.
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat and unhurried — fifteen years and three cask types need air, not ice, at least for the first glass. More pot still whiskeys are in our Irish whiskey collection.
