Mezcal Amaras Espadin Joven is an unaged 41% ABV (82 proof), 750mL mezcal made from 100% Espadin agave (Agave angustifolia) in San Juan del Rio, Oaxaca, Mexico. The producer cooperative Laajsh Doob cooks the agave five days in a conical stone oven, crushes it with an Egyptian mill (a tahona-style stone wheel), ferments naturally in pine wood and double-distils in small copper pot stills. The Sustainability Flagship From San Juan del Rio

Amaras was founded in 2010 by Santiago Suarez and Luis Nino de Rivera around a simple bargain with the land: the brand describes itself as the world's first carbon-neutral mezcal company and says it plants ten agaves for every one it harvests. The Espadin Joven is where that philosophy is bottled — estate-style Espadin from San Juan del Rio, worked by the Laajsh Doob cooperative through stone oven, stone wheel and copper still with no industrial shortcuts. The result is the house's calling card: a clean, bright, traditionally made joven built for sipping, not shooting. Compare it across our mezcal and tequila collections, or see the range on the Mezcal Amaras vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Bergamot citrus and cherry blossom (brand notes). Palate: Opens on sandalwood and closes with ripe mango, the Espadin's sweetness carried on a silky texture. Finish: Velvety and lightly salted, with a touch of cinnamon.

How to Enjoy

Sip it neat in a copita to catch the floral-fruit arc, or build a Mezcal Margarita or Oaxacan Old Fashioned on it — at 41% it holds its own in a stirred drink.
