Metaxa 5 Stars
Metaxa 5 Stars is a 38% ABV (76 proof), 750mL Greek amber spirit created by Spyros Metaxa in Piraeus in 1888 — a category of its own, which the house states is neither cognac nor brandy. It marries fine aged wine distillates with aged Muscat wines from the Aegean island of Samos and an infusion of Mediterranean botanicals including May rose petals, the components matured separately in oak and blended by the Metaxa Master. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Original Greek Spirit
Spyros Metaxa, from a family of Greek silk merchants, built his first distillery in the port of Piraeus in 1888; building it, workers unearthed an ancient medallion of a Salamina warrior, the emblem the house still carries. The house later moved to Kifissia, north of Athens, and joined Rémy Cointreau in 2000. Its Samos Muscat comes from hand-tended, hand-harvested plots on the Aegean island.
