Twenty-One Botanicals, One Copper Still in the Hills of Jundiai
McQueen and the Violet Fog is made by Sovereign Brands in Jundiai, Brazil, and takes its name from a poem — the poem's final two stanzas are printed on the back of the bottle, and the crowned-eye logo nods to the pot still. What sets it apart is the base and the botanical basket: instead of grain spirit, the botanicals are infused into a Brazilian sugarcane spirit, and the 21 botanicals span several continents — basil from India, rosemary from Portugal and fennel seed from the Mediterranean alongside Brazilian acai, Vietnamese star anise, calamansi, pomelo, lemongrass, orris root and jasmine flower. Part of the botanical charge is macerated in the spirit and part is vapour-infused through a copper basket, in small batches. Find it on the McQueen and the Violet Fog vendor page and among the wider shelf in our gin collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the producer's sell sheet: citrus-forward, with juniper elegantly joined by anise, rosemary and stone-fruit notes — light and delicate for a gin, with a smooth finish. Wine Enthusiast (93 points) found sweet candied lemon peel on the nose, a soft palate, and mild violet with white pepper and coriander on the finish.
How to Enjoy
Built to be sipped over ice as well as mixed: a Gin & Tonic shows off the citrus, an Aviation plays to the violet in its name, and a Gimlet keeps it sharp. More cocktail bases are in our spirits collection.
