Maxime Trijol VS is a 40% ABV, 750mL VS cognac from the family house at Saint-Martial-sur-Né, France — the entry point of the Grand Classic range, blended from eaux-de-vie of several crus, mainly Ugni Blanc, double distilled in Charentais pot stills and aged in Limousin oak. By law the youngest eau-de-vie in a VS has aged at least two years. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

  • ABV: 40%

  • Blend: Multi-cru eaux-de-vie, mainly Ugni Blanc — Grand Classic range
  • Production: Double distillation in Charentais pot stills, wine kept on the lees; aged in Limousin oak
  • House: Maison Maxime Trijol, Saint-Martial-sur-Né, Charente — family house, first still installed 1859

The Range Starts Here

Maxime Trijol became a professional distiller in 1962 on foundations laid in 1859, and the house — still family-run, still growing its own grapes — treats even its youngest cognac as a distiller's product: wine kept on the lees until distillation, two passes through Charentais pot stills, then Limousin oak. The VS is deliberately aromatic and complex for its grade, rich in the vine-flower fruit of young eaux-de-vie; the house reports a Double Gold at the New York International Spirits Competition 2017 for it. Step up the range in our cognac collection, or on the Maxime Trijol vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Straw yellow in the glass; intense fruity and floral aromas recalling vine flowers in June, with candied orange peel, ripe plum and apricot. Palate: Medium-to-full and fleshy — yellow stone fruit and vanilla. Finish: Peppery, with cedary oak and a trace of rolling tobacco.

How to Enjoy

The cocktail grade of the range: a Sidecar, a French 75-style cognac fizz or a long drink over ice with tonic — though its fruit makes it a pleasant neat pour too.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does VS mean on a cognac? VS ("Very Special") is a regulated grade: the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend must have aged at least two years in oak.

Is Maxime Trijol VS good for cocktails? Yes — its intense fruit and floral character is built for mixed drinks like the Sidecar, and the house itself positions the VS for sipping, cocktails and long drinks alike.

Where is Maxime Trijol VS made? In Saint-Martial-sur-Né, Charente, France, by a family house distilling since 1859 that grows its own grapes and bottles on site.
