Maxime Trijol Elegance is a 40% ABV, 750mL cognac from the Grande Champagne — the Premier Cru of Cognac, France. Despite the word "Champagne" in its name, this is not a sparkling wine: Élégance is the entry expression of Maxime Trijol's single-cru Grande Champagne range, made entirely from grapes grown in that prized chalk-soil cru, mainly Ugni Blanc. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

  • ABV: 40%
  • Size: 750mL
  • Cru: 100% Grande Champagne, Premier Cru de Cognac
  • Grape: Mainly Ugni Blanc
  • Grade: Ungraded — the youngest expression of the house's Grande Champagne range (no official age statement)
  • House: Maison Maxime Trijol, Saint-Martial-sur-Né, Charente — family house, first still installed 1859

Premier Cru Cognac From a Grower-Distiller

Maxime Trijol is one of the largest family-owned distilleries in Cognac — 22 Charentais pot stills at Saint-Martial-sur-Né — and unusually, the family grows its own grapes as well as distilling, ageing and bottling, keeping control from vine to bottle. Its vineyards sit in Grande and Petite Champagne, and Élégance is drawn purely from the Grande: the cru whose chalk soils produce the longest-lived, most floral eaux-de-vie in Cognac. As the youngest Grande Champagne bottling in the range, it shows that cru character in its freshest form. Browse the house's other grades in our cognac collection, or on the Maxime Trijol vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Delicate floral and fruity bouquet with a subtle oaky spice. Palate: Golden-yellow in the glass; fruit and spirit in long, balanced harmony. Finish: Harmonious and persistent — a young Grande Champagne drinking with unusual poise.

How to Enjoy

Serve neat at room temperature (the house suggests 20–25°C) in a tulip glass as an aperitif or after dinner; its freshness also suits a sidecar built on a Premier Cru base.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Maxime Trijol Elegance a Champagne wine? No. It is a cognac. "Champagne" in its name refers to Grande Champagne, the Premier Cru growing area of the Cognac region — the bottle contains still, distilled cognac at 40% ABV, not sparkling wine.

What grade is Élégance — VS or VSOP? Neither, officially. It is the ungraded entry expression of Trijol's Grande Champagne range; the house publishes no grade or minimum age for it.

Where does Maxime Trijol make its cognac? At Saint-Martial-sur-Né in the Charente, France, where the family house — first still installed in 1859 — distils in 22 Charentais pot stills and grows its own Grande and Petite Champagne grapes.
