The Blue Ribbon of the Borderies, Since 1912

Edouard Martell, great-grandson of founder Jean Martell, created Cordon Bleu in 1912 and named it for the blue ribbon, the international emblem of excellence. Martell frames it as the authentic expression of the Borderies: the high proportion of that cru's eaux-de-vie is what the house credits for the blend's caramelised, sweet-spice character. See the house on the Martell vendor page, or browse our cognac collection.

Tasting Notes

Per Martell's published notes: deep golden copper; a vibrant, rich nose of candied plum and apple with roasted mocha coffee, toasted almond and vetiver; an exceptionally rounded, mellow palate led by the Borderies' elegance; an impressively long finish of fruit and spice, with gingerbread and roasted cocoa in the house characterisation.

How to Enjoy

Sip it slowly and neat — this is the blend Martell built its reputation on — or with a splash of water to open the orchard fruit. More Martell expressions are in our cognac collection.
