Maiz Nation Seleccion Barbieri Whiskey is art in a bottle from Oaxaca: a 100-proof (50% ABV), non-chill-filtered Oaxacan whiskey, drawn as tiny single barrels and small batches from the creative pursuit of Maestro Destilador Jonathan Barbieri — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Barbieri was a painter before he became a distiller, and the Selección Barbieri series is his canvas: whiskies with varying mashbills — here native corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley — released only when the maker and the whiskey agree the time is right. This batch was distilled at the off-grid, solar-powered SolCraft Distillery in San Agustín Etla, Oaxaca, from grain stoneground on site and fermented with 100% rainwater, then aged a minimum of 3 years in new, deep-charred American oak (No. 4 char) and bottled at full 100 proof, unchillfiltered.

Tasting notes: vanilla, toffee, and charred oak on the nose; caramel sweetness with a peppery undertone on the palate; a rich, warming finish with lingering sweetness and spice.

Why buy Selección Barbieri? Because it is the collector's Maiz Nation — a single-barrel, 100-proof expression from the maestro himself, aged in deep-charred new oak and released in very small batches that never return. Browse the world whisky collection, the Maiz Nation brand collection, and more international spirits.

Serving note: best neat or with a splash of water; the 100-proof frame also builds a bold Old Fashioned or Manhattan.

What is the proof? 100 proof (50% ABV), non-chill-filtered.

What is the mash bill? Native corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley — percentages vary by batch; this is a single-barrel/small-batch release.

Who is Jonathan Barbieri? The painter-turned-distiller behind Maiz Nation, distilling at the solar-powered SolCraft Distillery in Oaxaca, Mexico.

How old is it? Aged a minimum of 3 years in new, deep-charred (No. 4 char) American oak.
