Kavalan — Yilan County's old name — was founded in 2005 by the King Car Group as Taiwan's first whisky distillery, making single malt exclusively. Whisky matures fast in Yilan: intense heat and humidity in non-air-conditioned warehouses accelerate the conversation between spirit and wood, which is why Kavalan built the Distillery Select series around cask selection rather than age. Tasting Notes

Sweet tropical fruit — mango and banana — with buttery caramel and a floral undertone on the nose; rich oak, warming vanilla, honeyed orchard fruit and toffee apple on the palate; a smooth, fruity finish of pineapple, mango, sweet tropical spice and butterscotch.
