Thirteen Months in American Oak

Ilegal began with John Rexer moving Oaxacan mezcal to his Antigua bar, Cafe No Se, and the Anejo is the range's longest rest: the same 100% Espadin spirit as the Joven, given 13 months in American oak until each lot tastes ready. The brand positions all its mezcal as 100% natural, with no artificial colours, yeasts, flavours, or additives, and its own shop credits this Anejo as a Tequila.net "Best of the Best" Best Aged Mezcal. Explore the range on the Ilegal Mezcal vendor page, or browse our tequila and mezcal collection.

Tasting Notes

Per the official shop: maple, clove, and bitter orange on the nose; dark chocolate and sweet agave on the palate; rounded, full, and rich in character.

How to Enjoy

Sip it neat like a fine Scotch or Cognac — the chocolate and maple reward a slow pour. The younger expressions are in our tequila and mezcal collection.
