A Year in Oak, Three Generations in the Making
Hornitos was founded in 1950 by Don Francisco Javier Sauza — grandson of Casa Sauza's founder — and named for the little ovens, hornitos, that roast the agave. The Anejo is the range's slow expression: the same 100% blue agave distillate as the Plata, given a full year or more in white oak to trade blanco brightness for depth. Browse aged tequila from across Jalisco, check the Hornitos vendor page, or contrast it with the lighter rest of Hornitos Reposado Tequila.
Tasting Notes
Palate: Sweet vanilla and hazelnut over dried fruit, with strong agave nectar still at the core. Colour: Rich tawny brown. Finish: Deep, rich and complex, drying slightly at the end.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat in a stemmed glass after dinner, add a single large cube to open the vanilla and dried fruit, or stir it into an anejo Old Fashioned with a dash of bitters and an orange twist.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is Hornitos Anejo aged? At least one year in American white oak barrels, per the producer — the minimum for anejo, and the figure stated for this bottling.
Is Hornitos Anejo 100% agave? Yes — it is made from 100% blue agave, like the rest of the Hornitos range.
How should anejo tequila be served? Neat or over one large cube, sipped slowly like a fine whiskey — chilling or mixing it heavily hides the oak-aged depth.
