High West The Barreled Boulevardier Liqueur is a bottled boulevardier from Park City, Utah — straight bourbon, Vya sweet vermouth, and Gran Classico, the bitter Swiss amaro, married for 90 to 120 days in used American oak barrels until the blend reaches perfection. Bottled at 36% ABV (72 proof) in a 750mL bottle, with no chill filtration and no flavor added. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Named for the Cocktail's Creator

The boulevardier is named for Erskine Gwynne, who moved to Paris in the 1920s and founded The Boulevardier, a monthly magazine for upper-class expatriates whose contributors included Joyce, Hemingway, Thomas Wolfe, and Sinclair Lewis — "Park Avenue (Park City!)" as the back label puts it. High West Distillery, Utah's first legally licensed distillery since Prohibition, built this bottled version the slow way: the three components rest together in oak for three to four months so the bittersweet amaro, herbal vermouth, and bourbon truly marry. Tasting Notes

Herbal amaro aromatics on the nose; the palate brings dried cherries, sweet fruits, cinnamon, oak, and roasted nuts, settling into a mellow bittersweet finish. Scored 88 points by the Beverage Testing Institute (2014).

How to Enjoy

Pour over ice, or stir on ice and strain into a cocktail glass with an orange or lemon twist — the barrel rest means it needs no further aging in your glass.
