A 1934 Cuban Recipe, Crafted in Puerto Rico
Havana Club's recipe was created by the Arechabala family in Cuba in 1934 and personally transcribed by Ramon Arechabala for Bacardi, which relaunched the brand in the United States in 1995. The rum itself is made in Puerto Rico: molasses rum aged a full year in oak, blended, returned to oak for at least two more months, and filtered to a crystal-clear blanco that keeps the vanilla and oak depth of an aged rum. Tasting Notes
Notes of pineapple and banana on the nose, hints of vanilla and oak on the palate, and a smooth, long finish — an aged rum's character in a clear, cocktail-ready blanco.
How to Enjoy
Built for the classics: a Mojito or Daiquiri where the oak and vanilla depth shows through, or a Cuba Libre with a proper squeeze of lime.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the Cuban Havana Club? No — the Havana Club sold in the United States is Bacardi's, distilled and aged in Puerto Rico. It follows the original 1934 Arechabala family recipe from Cuba; the separate Cuban bottling is not sold in the US.
Why is an aged rum clear? The rum is aged in oak for a year, blended and aged at least two months more, then filtered — removing the colour while keeping the aged flavour.
What is the ABV and size? 40% ABV (80 proof), 750mL.
