Hamilton West Indies 1670 Blend is a 750mL rum at 42% ABV — 84 proof. It marries rum distilled and aged on the banks of Guyana's Demerara River with rum from Worthy Park Estate in Jamaica, blended and diluted with filtered well water at the Five & 20 Distillery in Westfield, New York. Ed Hamilton created it after a New York bar group asked for a lower-proof daiquiri rum in the Navy Strength family — it was first known simply as the New York Blend. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

  • ABV: 42% (84 proof)
  • Size: 750mL
  • Blend: Demerara River rum (Guyana) + Worthy Park Estate rum (Jamaica); no age statement, no published ratio
  • The name: 1670 — the year both estates in the blend trace their heritage to (Hamilton's own account)
  • Bottling: Blended and proofed at Five & 20 Distillery, Westfield, NY

The Daiquiri Blend With a 1670 Pedigree

When Hamilton proofed his Navy Strength blend straight down to 84, it tasted Jamaican-heavy — so he re-tested at 80, 82 and 84 proof in varying proportions until the Demerara depth and Worthy Park funk sat level. The result is the 1670: named for the year both source estates trace their heritage back to. Browse the blender's range on the Hamilton vendor page or see more rum.

Tasting Notes

From Hamilton's own notes: honeyed stone fruit on the nose with smoky caramelised-fruit hints; smoky cedar, dark fruit and spice on the palate; a long finish with a brine note under smoky wood.

How to Enjoy

Built for the Daiquiri — 2 oz of the 1670, lime and a touch of Demerara syrup — and it holds its own in a Mai Tai or a rum Old Fashioned.
