The Liqueur with Gold in the Glass
Goldschlager — the name means "gold beater," after the craftsmen who hammer gold into leaf — was created in Switzerland in the 1990s in the tradition of gold-flecked spirits like Danziger Goldwasser, and became a 1990s party icon: a fiery cinnamon schnapps carrying visible flakes of real 24k gold. The brand passed from Diageo to the Sazerac Company in 2018 as part of a 19-brand deal, and Sazerac lists it among its liqueurs today. The gold is decorative and flavourless — the cinnamon does all the talking. Find it on the Goldschlager vendor page and among the shooters and spice liqueurs in our liqueur collection.
Tasting Notes
No official producer tasting note is published; retailer descriptions consistently characterise it as intense, hot cinnamon — sweet and syrupy up front with a long, warming cinnamon finish.
How to Enjoy
Serve ice-cold as a shot, or use its heat in cocktails — a Goldschlager-spiked apple cider or a cinnamon-whiskey sour riff. More after-dinner and shot pours live in our spirits collection.
