The Infinita: The 18 Year Old, Renamed and Unchanged
The Infinita is the new name for the whisky long sold as Glenmorangie 18 Years Old — the expression formerly labelled "Extremely Rare." Whisky maker Dr Bill Lumsden is clear that the liquid itself is unchanged: the rename, the copper label and the vibrant blue presentation box with its infinity symbol simply give Glenmorangie's most complex core whisky the name he believes it always deserved. Distilled in the tallest stills in Scotland — the distillery's famous "giraffe-high" stills at Tain — it is the house style at full maturity. Tasting Notes
Rich, rounded and sweet on the nose, with dried fruit and a complex floral fragrance — honey, vanilla, narcissus and jasmine. The palate balances honey, malt and flowery notes as rich figs and dates emerge, with nuts, gentle spice and a hint of wood smoke in the background; honeyed caramelised orange and orange marmalade run through it. The finish is long and enticing, the sweetness of dried fruit over the subtle dryness of Oloroso nuttiness.
How to Enjoy
Neat in a tulip glass, given a few minutes to open — each sip seems to show a different layer, which is rather the point of the name. A few drops of water lift the jasmine and lemon blossom if you want the floral side forward.
