It is matured in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks, red wine casks and virgin oak, and in 2025 it was named World's Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards. Billy Walker's Flagship, Crowned World's Best
GlenAllachie spent most of its life, from its 1967 founding, quietly supplying blends. That changed in 2017, when master distiller Billy Walker and his partners bought the distillery and set about proving what its spirit could do as a single malt — the 12 Year Old, launched in 2018, is the heart of that argument: Walker's cask selection across sherry, red wine and virgin oak, bottled at a full 46% with no chill filtration and no added colour. The argument landed: at the World Whiskies Awards 2025 the 12 Year Old took both Best Scotch Speyside Single Malt and the overall World's Best Single Malt title. Tasting Notes
Per the producer's current notes: a nose of dark chocolate, treacle and heather honey with cinnamon, espresso and sticky raisins; a palate of marzipan and orchard fruit, then mocha, butterscotch and grated nutmeg. An earlier producer note set for the same bottling led with butterscotch, honey, raisins and mocha — the recipe has broadened since launch, and the current set above reflects it.
