Where La Altena Meets Cognac
El Tesoro — "the treasure" — honours Don Felipe Camarena, who founded La Altena in 1937 and built its agave in traditional stone ovens, crushed by a two-ton volcanic tahona wheel, and distilled in copper pot stills. His Paradiso collaboration with A. de Fussigny blender Alain Royer set out to let cognac-cask elegance enhance the agave, never cover it. The brand's official page reports 97 points from the Beverage Testing Institute in 2021 and 94 points from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge in 2021 for Paradiso. See the house on the El Tesoro vendor page, or browse our tequila collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the brand's published notes: a rich gold tequila with butterscotch and herbs on the nose, soft hints of smoke, oak and tropical fruit; sweet butterscotch and herbs on the palate; a finish of butterscotch with smoke and oak, over an earthy minerality.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat at room temperature in a flute or Riedel tequila glass — five years of cognac oak rewards a slow pour. More extra anejos are in our tequila collection.
