One Brand, One Distillery, Since 1959
Don Jorge Salles Cuervo founded El Tequileno on New Year's Day 1959, naming it for the town of Tequila itself, and La Guarreña has only ever made this one brand. Third-generation master distiller Tony Salles runs production today on estate-grown Highland agave and mineral-rich volcanic spring water, cooked in autoclaves the family has used since the founding and double distilled in copper pot stills — additive-free, as the house has always been. The Gran Reserva Reposado takes the standard reposado's rest further: at least eight months in American oak, then a blending touch of 18-month Anejo for depth. Line it up with its siblings on our tequila shelf, or the whole house on the El Tequileno vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Banana, caramelised pear and nutmeg with vanilla and caramel (distiller's notes). Palate: Light oak, vanilla, spice and toffee with macadamia nut. Finish: Smooth Highland sweetness carried on gentle oak.
How to Enjoy
The brand's own serves: on the rocks, or in a Mexican Old Fashioned, where the Anejo-blended depth holds up to bitters and dilution. Neat at room temperature shows the full Highland fruit.
