It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The Reserve Marriage at La Guarreña

The Gran Reserva is where the Salles family's cellar shows: a minimum of eighteen months in American and French oak — the French oak a Gran Reserva signature in this range — then a marriage with the house's reserve Extra Anejo stocks for a longer, deeper finish. It is built entirely on estate-grown Highland agave, volcanic spring water and copper pot stills, the same additive-free production as every El Tequileno bottling since Jorge Salles Cuervo founded the distillery in 1959; his grandson Tony Salles, third-generation master distiller, blends it today. Set it beside the Reposado Gran Reserva on our tequila shelf, or see the full house on the El Tequileno vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Toasted oak, vanilla and cooked agave with caramel, chocolate, nuts and cinnamon (official notes). Palate: Toasted oak with toasted almond, pepper and cinnamon spice. Finish: Long, carried by the Extra Anejo in the blend.

How to Enjoy

Neat, in a proper tequila glass — the brand's own direction for this bottling. This is a sipping anejo; give it a few minutes in the glass and the oak and agave settle into each other.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Anejo Gran Reserva aged? A minimum of 18 months in American and French oak, then blended with reserve Extra Anejo — the Extra Anejo component is what lengthens the finish beyond a standard anejo.

How does it differ from the Reposado Gran Reserva? Age and oak: the Reposado Gran Reserva rests a minimum of eight months in American oak with a small Anejo addition; this Anejo Gran Reserva doubles that rest, uses American and French oak, and is blended with Extra Anejo.

Is it 100% agave? Yes — 100% estate-grown Blue Weber agave from the Los Altos Highlands, and the house states the range is additive-free.

Eighteen months, two oaks and an Extra Anejo marriage — order El Tequileno Anejo Gran Reserva online from Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.
