El De Bateo Mezcal
El De Bateo Mezcal is a 40% ABV (80 proof) mezcal artesanal joven made from 100% Espadín agave in Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca, Mexico — and it comes in a full 1L bottle. Maestro Mezcalero Erasto Martinez cooks the agave in underground stone ovens, crushes it with a horse-drawn tahona and double-distils in copper stills. Tlacolula Tradition in a Liter Bottle
In the white highlands of Tlacolula, Espadín agave grows for eight to ten years before the jima. El De Bateo keeps every step artesanal after that: three to four days roasting in underground conical stone ovens, a horse-drawn tahona stone for the crush, open fermentation in cypress wood tubs with spring water for about two weeks, and two passes through copper boiler stills under Maestro Erasto Martinez. The result is a traditional pit-roasted Oaxacan joven with nothing industrial about it — in a generous 1L format. Compare it across our mezcal and tequila collections, or on the El De Bateo vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Fresh and smoky — roasted agave, citrus, warm smoke, tropical fruit and fresh herbs. Palate: Smooth and rounded; roasted agave sweetness and green fruit with warming smoke. Finish: Medium-long and warming, with lingering smoke, roasted agave and a clean mineral fade.
How to Enjoy
Sip it neat in a copita or jícara with sal de gusano and orange slices, or give a Mezcal Margarita and a Oaxacan Old Fashioned a properly smoky base — the 1L bottle goes further at the bar.
