Don Fulano Imperial Extra Anejo Tequila is the crown of the Don Fulano range and a genuine landmark in aged tequila: a blend of tequilas aged a minimum of five years, with components as old as twelve, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750mL bottle. It matures entirely in French oak — sourced from Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Loire Valley, and Napa — before a finishing period in Oloroso sherry casks from Spain. Named Tequila of the Year at the London Spirits Competition (93 points), it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.

Five Generations in One Bottle

Enrique Fonseca is one of the largest agave landowners in Jalisco; his family bought the historic La Tequileña distillery (NOM 1146) in the 1980s and has distilled there for 30+ years. Fonseca studied distillation in Scotland and France, and Imperial is the European-inflected result: French oak from four wine regions plus Spanish sherry casks, built on 100% estate-grown Highland agave and certified additive-free. It drinks in Cognac and sherried-Scotch territory while staying unmistakably tequila.

Tasting Notes

Coffee bean, old leather, tobacco, toasted nuts, and lavish black cherry on the nose. The palate is deeply rich — dried apricots, stewed cherries, figs, clove, cardamom, maple, toffee, and dark chocolate — with sweet agave spice running underneath. The finish is long, velvety, and exceptionally soft.

How to Enjoy

Neat in a snifter, with time — pour it, let it rest, and let the layers unfold. This is a special-occasion pour: serve after dinner, perhaps alongside dark chocolate or a cigar, and never in a cocktail.
