Benedictine, Pre-Blended the Way Drinkers Asked for It
B&B — Benedictine and Brandy — was developed in the 1930s, when drinkers had taken to mixing Benedictine with brandy themselves for a drier taste and the house bottled the blend for them. The base liqueur is the Fecamp original Alexandre Le Grand developed in 1863: per the official process, its botanical batches are distilled separately, aged in large oak barrels, then blended with honey and saffron and rested again before bottling — a recipe of 27 botanicals that remains a closely guarded secret, made at the Palais Benedictine in Fecamp to this day. Producer copy adds that the B&B blend itself is matured and mellowed in oak for over two years before it is ready. Find it on the D.O.M Benedictine vendor page and among the classics in our liqueur collection.
Tasting Notes
From producer copy reproduced by retailers: coppery with golden highlights; a light herbal, spicy fragrance with dried-fruit aromas; a drier palate than straight Benedictine, with soft woody notes and a mild honeyed finish.
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat or over a single cube as a ready-made after-dinner serve — no mixing needed — or use it where Benedictine and brandy meet, in a Vieux Carre-style stir. More digestifs live in our spirits collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between B&B and Benedictine?
B&B is Benedictine D.O.M pre-blended with fine French brandy — same 40% ABV, but noticeably drier, less sweet and more brandy-forward than the straight herbal liqueur.
What does D.O.M. stand for?
Deo Optimo Maximo — Latin for "To God, most good, most great" — the dedication carried on every Benedictine label.
Where is B&B made?
At the Palais Benedictine in Fecamp, Normandy, France, where Benedictine has been produced since Alexandre Le Grand developed it in 1863; the brand sits with Bacardi today.
