Disaronno Amaretto Riserva is a 750mL limited-edition liqueur bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) — the first new product Disaronno released in nearly five centuries. It blends Disaronno Originale with blended Scotch whisky, then ages the marriage for six months in vintage Marsala wine casks at Cantine Florio in Sicily. Just 10,000 bottles were produced, each presented in a black wooden box. Order it online at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.

The First New Disaronno Since 1525

Disaronno's recipe dates to 1525, and for almost 500 years the house made exactly one product. Riserva was CEO Augusto Reina's personal project: he travelled to the Highlands and Speyside to select Scotch whiskies that would marry with the amaretto's almond character, blended them with Disaronno in Saronno, then sent the liquid south to the family's Cantine Florio in Marsala — Sicily's historic Marsala house — to rest in the estate's old Marsala casks by the sea. The result is a liqueur that starts in amaretto territory and finishes somewhere near a whisky. Browse the house on the Disaronno vendor page.

Tasting Notes

Tangerine zest, marzipan and roasted almond on the nose, with dried apricot, vanilla and a whisper of cinnamon. The palate is drier and silkier than the Originale — clove, honey, toasted almond and dried fruit with the malt whisky showing through — and the finish is long and peppery: marzipan, toasted almond, honey and spice.

How to Enjoy

Pour it neat or over a single rock after dinner; the whisky backbone also makes it a serious base for an Amaretto Sour or a Godfather built at a higher register. More Italian liqueurs are in our liqueurs collection.
