16 oz mason jar | Stardust cherries, Pacific Northwest | Preserved with bourbon & Tennessee whiskey — Dirty Sue Whiskey Cherries are the bartender's upgrade to the cocktail cherry: noticeably larger Stardust cherries from the Pacific Northwest, preserved in a mix of sugar, cherry juice, and red currant juice with a hint of star anise, vanilla, Kentucky bourbon, and Tennessee whiskey. The skin pops with the first bite, revealing flavor compared to a fresh cherry. Available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego, CA.

These are large, firm, fairly dry cherries — not the neon maraschino of the garnish tray. The whiskey is the last ingredient on the list, so the fruit does the talking: bright cherry up front, vanilla and warm spice behind, all-natural deep red color, gluten-free. Among cocktail garnishes, they're the jar that makes an Old Fashioned or Manhattan taste like the bar down the street just hired a better bartender. Refrigerate after opening.

Tasting notes

Big punch of vanilla over bright, firm cherry fruit; sweet finish with warm spice and a whisper of whiskey. (Per Drinkhacker review.)
