Bend's Fresh-Hop Obsession, Bottled Year-Round
Deschutes grew out of a Bend brewpub in 1988 and never stopped experimenting with hops. Fresh Squeezed began as a favourite at the brewery's Bond Street pub — a sibling to its fresh-hop icon Hop Trip rather than an offshoot of it — and graduated in 2013 to the year-round lineup: Citra and Mosaic hops chosen and dosed to pour like fresh juice — grapefruit, citrus and passionfruit — over a malt body with just enough caramel malt to hold it together. Find more craft beer, visit the Deschutes vendor page, or compare Delaware's hop icon, Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Juicy citrus and grapefruit, per the brewery. Palate: Citra-and-Mosaic tropical and citrus fruit — passionfruit in the mix — over a balanced malt body. Finish: Fresh and hoppy with moderate bitterness for its 50 IBU.
How to Enjoy
Keep it cold and drink it fresh — hop aroma is the whole point. Pour it into a glass, and pair it with spicy Thai, fish tacos or a sharp goat cheese.
